TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Cages

The cage is used for positioning and keeping the balls at an equal distance from each other on the circumference of the pitch circle. Different types of cages are proposed in order to offer the best possible solutions to specific customer applications. In principle, cages are either made of brass, steel or synthetic materials. Ball bearings without cages and full complemented bearings can be supplied too.

Brass cages (Y) or steel cages (J) are built in two parts and clamped at assembly. For specific applications (vibration) a machined brass cage (M) may be ordered.

Synthetic cages are generally reinforced with glass-fibre or carbon fibre. They are then assembled by being pressed into the ball bearing. The cage elasticity allows for certain manipulations, such as the cleaning of the balls or the replacement of a cage.

Full complement bearings (V) permit the increase of the maximum admissible load but reduce the maximum speed. The balls are inserted through a recess on the inner and outer ring.

The available space does not permit the assembly of any cage type with any shield and seal. The ball bearing tables show on their right side the possible WIB cage-shield/seal combinations. Other combinations are possible, for instance with reduced cage dimensions.
