Improvements to the outer ring
By applying surface treatments on outer ring contact surfaces, it is possible to improve certain mechanical characteristics such as the hardness. By doing this, the wear resistance will be increased and the friction coefficient decreased. With certain treatments it is possible to achieve high resistance to specific chemical agents. The table on the right shows some examples of such surface treatments and their resulting technical characteristics.
Surface treatments on internal rolling parts such as balls, cages, and raceways can be carried out to increase the resistance to wear or the behavior of the bearings in cases of uncertain lubrication. Some of these treatments even allow dry lubrication, for instance when oil or grease is not acceptable.
