DINTECHNICAL INFORMATION Lubrication
The principal aim of lubrication is to prevent, as much as possible, direct metallic contact between the rings, the balls and the cage. The use of an adequate lubricant will increase the bearing service life as well as its overall performance. The main effects of appropriate lubrication are the following:
● reduction of friction torque ● reduction of wear ● improvement of cooling ● protection against corrosion and ingress of foreign bodies
The choice of lubricant is mainly based on prevailing environmental conditions, on the operating temperature and on the speed of the ball bearing. Grease or oil may be used as a lubricant.
Grease Grease is the most commonly used type of lubricant, especially when lifetime lubrication is requested. Grease offers good protection against ingress of humidity and foreign bodies.
Oil At the factory, oil lubrication is normally used with high temperatures and speeds or for applications where the friction torque must be maintained at a minimum. For systems lubricated with circulating oil, WIB bearings are delivered open, protected against corrosion.
Dry Lubrication For difficult lubrication conditions or in cases where grease or oil lubrication cannot be tolerated, dry lubrication by means of a special surface treatment of the raceways, the balls or the cage may be the only acceptable solution.
Standard WIB Lubrication Unless differently specified by the customer, standard lubrication of WIB products is carried out using the following greases:
Metric Series
Inch Series
These high quality greases offer the advantage of being perfectly adapted to a majority of applications and guarantee lifetime lubrication.
No Lubrication Ball bearings supplied without lubricant are surface treated with a product preventing corrosion, called Anticorit 611-36.
